The easiest way to the clock
The Orloj hangs on the south side of the Old Town Hall tower on the Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí). The nearest stop is Staroměstská on Metro line A. Trams 2, 17 and 18 also serve Staroměstská, and Můstek on lines A and B is another way in. From any of these you walk to the square.
The square is a pedestrian zone, so public transport and walking beat any car trip. Watching the clock from the square needs no ticket. If you also want the tower and the Knights' Hall, see the Prague Astronomical Clock tickets page, and check the show times before you plan your arrival.

Ways to reach the Old Town Square
What each option involves.
| Option | Route | Time | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metro A | Exit at Staroměstská, walk to the square | – | Most visitors from the city |
| Metro A or B | Exit at Můstek, walk to the square | – | Arriving from Wenceslas Square or the New Town |
| Tram 2, 17, 18 | Stop Staroměstská, walk to the square | – | Travelers who prefer to ride above ground |
| Trolleybus 59 and Metro A | Airport to Nádraží Veleslavín, then Metro A to Staroměstská | About 15 minutes by trolleybus, about 35 minutes in total | The airport with luggage and a day ticket |
| Airport Express | Airport to the main station | About 40 to 45 minutes | The main station, then Metro |
| Bus 100 and Metro B | Airport to Zličín, then Metro B | About 18 minutes by bus | A fallback; no direct ride to the Town Hall |
For most visitors, Metro A to Staroměstská is the simplest choice, and from the airport trolleybus 59 plus Metro A is the standard route. Times are guide values without waiting time, so add a buffer.

Trolleybus 59 and Metro A
Take trolleybus 59 from Terminal 1 or 2 to Nádraží Veleslavín. This stretch takes about 15 minutes. There you change to Metro A and ride to Staroměstská. The line number to look for is 59.
Airport Express
This direct service runs from the airport to the main station and takes about 40 minutes (airport) or 45 minutes (PID). A ticket costs CZK 200 for adults and CZK 100 for children aged 6 to 15. It has its own fare system, so the free rides for seniors on regular PID lines do not apply.
Bus 100 and Metro B
Bus 100 goes to Zličín in about 18 minutes, where you change to Metro B. There is no direct bus to the Town Hall.
Seats and roadworks
The regular airport lines need no seat reservation. Roadworks near the airport can lengthen road journeys, so allow extra time if you travel by taxi or car.

Validating
Validate a paper ticket once, at the start of your first ride. Activate an app ticket before you board and wait 60 seconds for the protection period to pass.
For a day with several Metro rides and the airport leg, a 24-hour ticket at CZK 150 on paper or CZK 140 in the app is the usual pick. Do not mix these prices up with regional zone fares.
By car
Why most people leave it outside.
The pedestrian zone
The area around the Town Hall is a pedestrian zone with signed exceptions. Delivery windows on the Old Town Square are 6 to 9 am and 8 to 10 pm, plus exceptions that need a permit. This is not a general permission for tourists to drive in.
Park and Ride
Paid park-and-ride sites charge CZK 50 or CZK 100 for the first 24 hours, depending on the site. Černý Most costs CZK 50 and Holešovice CZK 100. You cannot reserve in advance, and fees and time limits differ by site.
Street parking
The blue zone allows visitors up to 3 hours, paid online. Prices and hours depend on the signs. Do not count on free parking at weekends.
Small practical points
For the walk and the square.
Pickpockets
Crowds, public transport and tourist spots are typical places for pickpocketing. Carry valuables closed and close to the body, and split cash and cards between pockets.
Currency exchange
Rates differ between exchange offices. Check the final payout before you hand over money, and ask for a receipt.
Across the river
The Charles Bridge and the castle lie on the other side of the Old Town. For routes there, see getting to the Charles Bridge.
